HOT RACKETS HERTFORDSHIRE - 2017 SEASON REVIEW
Another fantastic, successful Hertfordshire Hot Rackets summer season has now been completed. All previous entry records were broken for this 2017 season with even more teams taking part, 167 TEAMS - 23 DIVISIONS – 529 MATCHES, creating plenty of fantastic tennis across all divisions, for many clubs & players, confirming that Hot Rackets is one of the biggest leagues in Hertfordshire.
Congratulations to Elliswick Ladies 1 who won the Ladies Premier Division, for the first time, having a fantastic season winning 5 out of 6 matches and becoming champions, just ‘edging out’ runners up, Rickmansworth Ladies 1, by 3 rubbers, as both teams were on the same points after all matches were completed. A brilliant & exciting finish, that was worthy of our top ‘Premier’ division.
Also, congratulations to our Men’s Premier Division winners, Sawbridgeworth Men’s 1, who won all of their 6 matches in great style, and only losing 3 rubbers in all their matches, a great performance, playing top-class tennis in our top ‘Premier’ division.
Well done to both of our 2017 Premier division Ladies & Men’s Champions, in setting high standards & producing top quality ‘doubles match play’ tennis in our Premier divisions.
As usual competition for top places was as ‘hot’ as ever, and as last year, many divisions by the end of the season had many of the top team’s level on the same points & only separated by rubbers & sets to secure the top positions, which goes to prove how level & balanced the teams are becoming in all divisions. Many matches were very close, and the proof of this was there was ‘well over’ 100 ‘Quick Fire’, 5 set matches, which is our unique, fair, exciting & competitive way of a guaranteed team winners in every match.
Thanks to all the teams that are now consistently entering their match results quickly (within the 3-day deadline) on to the web site, keeping all the divisions & match statistics up to date.
Good to see that void matches were very low, and that the fixtures were again completed well before the end of the season, complimenting the ‘original – two-week fixture plan, which is helping teams to complete their fixtures a lot earlier during the season.
Great news is the walkovers were down on last year, 7.5% in 2016 to 6.8% in 2017, which is a very positive move in the right direction, especially considering we had many more matches this year than 2016.
Therefore, as the walkovers are reducing we are hopefully on the way to a season where there is ‘not one walkover’!
Congratulations to all our clubs/team winners & runners up in all divisions for 2017, there really was so many ‘close fought’ matches this year. The divisional winners will be receiving their 2017 ‘Winners Plaques’, applicable to their club & relevant division.
We will also be sending out the winner’s plaques for the 2016 season, as confirmed earlier in the season, as these used to be supplied by the Herts LTA, but this was discontinued by the Herts LTA in 2016, therefore Hot Rackets Inter Club Tennis Leagues UK, will be sending out the winner’s plaques at the finish of each season. All of the plaques for 2016 & 2017 will be ordered together, and once we receive them from the supplier we will forward the plaques to the applicable clubs by mail.
Well done to all the Hot Rackets teams throughout all of the 23 divisions who are really ‘embracing’ quality organised league doubles, playing & enjoying inter club tennis at all levels. Many thanks for all of the emails we receive from many clubs stating how much they enjoy the playing format, competitiveness & organisation of the Hot Rackets league.
As usual a special thanks to all of our clubs, captains, players and administrators who do a great job in helping the Hot Rackets Inter Club Tennis Leagues to run smoothly, especially the administration & web site, with up to the minute information, which combines to help all of our teams to play top quality, competitive & enjoyable tennis, all of which is making Hot Rackets become a first class Inter Club Team Tennis League.
Many Thanks,
Tony Scott & the Hot Rackets Team
